From a global point of view, definitely the .com is strongest. There is evidently a mentality tie between spanish speaking countries, so there is also a lot trade between the different latin american countries as well as between latin america and Spain.
I am pretty sure though, that .es will be developing a strong identity within Spain and probably also acquire popularity in other spanish speaking countries. Many south american countries look up at Spain, so whatever goes on in .es will be interesting.
