A 'parked' domain displays ads and usually nothing else. You can 'park' a domain with some registrars or go to Sedo ( or similar ). When someone reaches your domain and clicks on one of the ads you get paid - how much depends on type of the ad and your agreement with ad broker.
I don't really know what 'parked holding' is but my guess is that it refers to parking a domain pro forma in hope of making a sale somewhere down the road.
.uk domains are attractive because there's are no requirements for registrants to meet - anyone can register a .uk domain, you get 2 years for the price of .com's single year and the aftermarket is very lively.
