Hi,
I've been at this for over a decade, and found it, to be, and still a challenge/struggle. As we don't/can't do much, from a point view of; being able to go to a Domainer School (‘cause, Rick hasn't built that yet). We've all taken various routes to get here. To date I haven’t seen anything like it. A real opportunity! What I propose is, not doing from a point of profit first; but learning or giving each other a heads-up, an evolution, a continuance of what Rick has already started, a real privilege! There are so many bright people here and beyond, who know where they're going but know where they've been. The next step has already started; what could be your/our information on the basis of that fellowship. How do we think about domaining? Are there any quick helpful tips/links/ideas you could think of? If you know what kind reliable source(s) you've had or mistakes you’ve made, tell us, the world by way of ccTLD.com, is at your feet. I'll start, but bare in mind, this domain has its own sponsors (little joke). Here’s a 'secret' or two of mine. To mine generics, while there still out there. Look everywhere, (1) look at marketing or financial trends (will they still use money?); maybe while (2) watching TV (pen in hand, but don't obsess) or (3) going through a wiki or specialist dictionaries, trade manuals. Maybe you've seen a (4) great domain sale/auction; that just might work, for you, in another ccTLD and/or language, where to translate? (5) Don't buy on whims, really, really think about it. Can it wait? Write it down. Some will wait, so can 'save your money', say for hmm, inflation. Have you really researched this crappy (can I say that here) domain? Does it have portfolio potential? How many ways are there to make dough? Go ahead; you could do better than that. Like I used to; buy-in-bulk, pat myself on the back and find out much, much, later I registered a typo... Went back to registrar, for that, 'genius of an idea', that I even bought extra ccTLD’s, then checked real word(s), and that TLD... aarghh, someone else reg'd it, since, I was there... um, last! Years later, I did it again!? Now there are those 'money makers' that won't wait. You probably weren't sitting at the keyboard, (nor was I) when someone else sighted, Joe the Plumber? Sheesh, he's $till going. Thank Rick! Maybe (6) webmasterradio could advertise somewhere, here. Just a thought. Shhh… what’s your secret(s)? Ciao! |
