Why not to reserve some space for gTLDs?

Despite the fact that gTLDs.com is forwarding to Daily.co.uk.

Never mind. Don’t know where to post the question, so trying this best post. A question:

http://www.x.com is running as a blog.

One would expect all L.com go for XX million sums and rock-n-roll.

However, site like a.com, b.com, c.com … and many others are all down? Any reason why such good resources are wasted?
