At least according to a friend whom i spoke to recently. He's a software developer in Estonia. Apparently .ee is very popular in Estonia, even above .com, however Companies are only allowed to register a name that co-incides with their Brand and Trademark. They are only allowed one domain.
My take on what he said is that, there are a lot of generic .ee's that receive traffic but not registered because of the limitations. He did mention however that they are fielding a proposal to open up the registry so this might be a ccTLD to watch. any other Estonians out there know more?

Rasiel - Your wording for the regulations were a little confusing. Just to clarify, anyone from anywhere can register a .ee that actually relates to their product or business. Or do you mean you can only have one .ee if your from Estonia, and if your not, you can't have one?

Hi Asmro - according to my friend you have to be a registered company operating in Estonia. It's not open yet to the general public. At least thats what i understood from my conversation with him. I am looking for confirmations though...
wondering if anybody from Estonia on these boards.???

I heard the opening registry for .ee in this year too.
In Estonia .eu is a few popular, but .ee is the king. The co.ee is unpopular. |

Yeah - I would assume the co.(countrycode) wouldn't be to popular in most countries...

BTW Estonia is a very small country, only 1.3 million, so in my opinion there's not to much potential in .ee extension. DD

Estonia had 780 thousand of Internet users, 59.7%.
The country has digital ID card system, with the possibility to vote online. It's a small country but with possibilities. |
