Default Study shows that the use of a generic domain name can double PPC ad traffic!

I conducted a detailed comparison study between generic and non-generic domains, to see the influence of the use of a generic domain in the ads served up by a Google Adwords PPC campaign.

Bottom line: nearly twice as many clicks were delivered from the campaign using the generic domain that exactly matched the topic, vs the SAME ads pointed at the SAME landing page, using a non-generic domain.

Could prove handy the next time you're trying to "demonstrate" the value of a generic domain to a potential end-user buyer... The basic principle should remain true no matter what the cctld, though of course the exact amount of the "boost" from using a generic will depend on a lot of factors, such as the keywords being targeted, how exactly the generic domain matches the topic etc.

Thank you for this very interesting research, Edwin! Reading it right now: it is clear and quite convincing. Definitely I will keep a copy at hand. And it proves that "pseudo-global" and other non-com TLDs with generic terms definitely make sense.
