Currently a .cr domain costs $ 100 a year.

The change will be effective in May.

.cr is ccTLD for Costa Rica (4 million + population). There are ONLY 4498 .cr domains registered and 11718 with other extensions under .cr. Going down from $100 to $80 is not a big change. But this market looks very, very undeveloped and maybe it's worth to buy few top keywords and wait..

The .cr started last year. The com.cr are older.

With the price so high, Costa Ricans usually buying domains: KEYWORDCR.com

Oh, I didn't know. It is quite usual that people buy .com domains if the ccTLD prices are high or restricted.

High prices for domains are always a bad solution in my opinion. The average price of domain should not be higher than 5 EUR / year.

$100 were calculated for the registration of about 750 .cr domains in the first year.

However, NIC-CR is completely wrong, they have already registered over 4,500 domains.

Many people complained and so have dropped 20 bucks. In my opinion should be cheaper.

Nic.cr has sent an newsletter confirming the news.

The fees from May are:
$ 80 -- 1 year,
$ 155 - 2 years,
$ 370 - 5 years.
