I think the problem in Africa and with African ccTLDs is, that most of them lack the understanding of what to do with the domains, when they understand a little bit, they all become greedy and believe their domains should cost a fortune. Then you have the unstable polictical situation in many African countries, which also does not help and build trust in the domain investor.

Yes. It's a difficult market. I only have domains of Morocco, Libya, Sudan and Cameroon.
Anyway there are other countries which is more or less easy to register as Uganda,
South Africa, Madagascar, Mauritius.

Other countries are impossible or very expensive right now.

Uganda is very easy. Charles who runs the registry seems to be an easy going person and reponsive to emails. But only a few domains in Uganda actually have type in traffic. Evn domains like youtube.com.ug or youtube.ug have hardly any traffic.

Thumbs up Re: Slow Africa TLD growth blamed on lack of policies

I find .co.za (South Africa) domains to be just as good as any other western ccTLD.

I have had many for over a decade and have never had a problem in using them.

See an extensive list of 1, 2, 3 letter and other premium .co.za's at CoZaNic Domains for Sale

As we have just seen, RickLatoya sold Blackjack.co.za for $24K!

Wink Re: Slow Africa TLD growth blamed on lack of policies

We have a list of the Top 15 .co.za sales on CoZaNic.com - as much as we have been able to verify anyway as many sales are kept private.

Ironically enough, .co.za is actually quite a secure domain extension, as they are the only one in the whole wide world who require the Reverse DNS settings for nameservers. (The rest of the world took a shortcut and compromised security!). So not all registrars can host them and it is a manual process.

If anyone needs help to register a .co.za, give us a shout as we can register and host them at www.BokWeb.com

There are some sales for which there is no information about the sale mediator (venue). Are these private sales or is the sale mediator unknown?

Smile Re: Slow Africa TLD growth blamed on lack of policies

Hiya, yup they are either private or unknown. Verification is usually through proof of payment and transfer completion, so the venue is not always apparent. There are many more that are simply just not disclosed or not known...

We have had a few hundred more domains added to the CoZaNic.com Domain Name Listing Service listings so check it out.

I feel as if yes the lack of clear policies demonstration could be a strong reason behind slow Africa TLD growth.Because of things are not narrated well there are a great chance that the work proceeds in the wrong path.
