Default Happy Birthday Nic.ru - 15 years old

.Ru currently has over 2 million registered domains.

Cctld.ru has written a pdf (in Russian) with special information about these years ago.

Russian domain market is quite difficult for foreigners but it is very potential market. Unfortunately I haven't invested in that market yet too.

Yes, it's difficult for foreigners.

We mustn't forget about .rf (Russian Federation) written in the Cyrillic script instead of Latin characters.

In November 2008, .rf was approved and the registration process could start by summer 2009.

Yep, and that will make Russian domain market even more difficult. I think it's similar to Chinese market but of course much smaller.

And still doing business in Russia is not as easy as in other European countries.

Regarding Cyrillic .***1088;***1092; (.rf) .***1091;***1082;***1088; (.ua) .***1073;***1083;***1086;***1075; (.blog) - yes you can buy them, but none of the existing browser is supporting them at the moment, and will probably take some 5-10 years to make the change. I wouldn't invest a penny in such exotic TLDs.

.RU is okay - you need to provide your passport details though. For .UA you need a trademark or a business registered in Ukraine, else you have to go for .com.ua.

If you need a trademark in Ukraine - that can take some time, but Brands-and-Jingles stuff can certain.ly help.

Buying Cyrillic names isn't that easy. There is no one transliteration standard. E.g., for today.com in Ukrainian we had to buy some six various spellings.

Then I would recommend securing and mirroring .com names.

Like xostel.ru / xostel.com ("Hostel" in Russian and Ukrainian).

Daniel, I don't mind at all. I have jotted some summary to Alfredo, but the system did not save the copy.

Alfredo, would you please send my message back to me, or post it here?

Cheers / Cze***347;***263;!

Now we need to open .UA forum as well.

So here goes:

Quote:
You need to register a legal entity in Ukraine (this costs some $8k+ (most of it goes to company's equity), keep a bookkeeper, etc, etc) then file for a trademark, costs are marginal comparing to the above legal costs.

This is if you go for LLC. If you go for a sole trader - cost are down, but the liability is not capped.

In other words, you need a broker in Ukraine.
I would recommend to use my friends' established entities to file for trademarks and register domainsat.ua. But this requires some level of trust.

I will be in Ukraine during the summer and should I have at least 10 interested people ready to venture into this project, I may get some traction there.

Q: Can foreigners companies without local address request a trademark?
It is not about local address, you can get it fair.ly easily, but about legal entity. It is either you, or someone else, with who you have contact in Ukraine and can run businesses, needs to apply for a trademark or patent.

.Ru domains has reached 2,100,000 in just two months.

I remind you that the March 22 came to two million.
