What are the .cn syntax rules?

.CN domain names cannot have more than 63 English letters containing A-Z, a-z, 0-9 and hyphen (-).


Are there any restriction for registering .cn domain names?

Yes. All registered domain names must not contain following content:
1) Those that are against the basic principles prescribed in the Constitution;

2) Those jeopardize national security, leak state secrets, intend to overturn the government, or disrupt of state integrity;

3) Those harm national honor and national interests;

4) Those instigate hostility or discrimination between different nationalities, or disrupt the national solidarity;

5) Those violate the state religion policies or propagate cult and feudal superstition;

6) Those spread rumors, disturb public order or disrupt social stability;

7) Those spread pornography, obscenity, gambling, violence, homicide, terror or instigate crimes;

8) Those insult, libel against others and infringe other people's legal rights and interests; or

9) Other contents prohibited in laws, rules and administrative regulations.

Chinese Domain Name is one of Internationalized domain names that contains Chinese characters.


Can individuals register Chinese Domain Name?

No. Registration is not yet open to individuals.

.cn - ascii or IDN?

Still plenty of ascii.cn sales going on in the Chinese forums but now IDN are starting to make their presence felt. Quite a few recent idn.cn sales well in to upper $x,xxx, no doubt a few bigger ones under the radar.

Won't be long before the domaining world starts to take notice what with idn ccltd "slowtrack" coming to fruition,full browser compatibility around the corner then watch em fly.

CNNIC, the China Internet Network Information Center, released its 23rd statistical report on the internet development in China in January. The report found there were 13.572 million registered .CN domain names, the highest of any country code Top Level Domain (ccTLD) in the world. Today there are approximately 14.5 million .CN domain names.

The report notes China is not only the country with the most ccTLD domains registered, but also has the most internet users (298 million) and the most broadband users (279 million).
