Later this year the .CO cctld will be open to anyone in the world. The release will be done in stages, with priority phases for existing holders of .com.co domains, trademark holders, etc. Open landrush begins on 20 July 2010.

For anyone hoping to sneak in with a .com.co you're probably too late - the cutoff date for grandfathering existing .com.co registrations was 30 July 2008 (yes, a year and a half ago).

Although .com.co has now opened up (previously you needed a Colombian trademark), the .co is obviously the prize cctld to get your hands on, and I'm sure it will quickly overtake .com.co even in Colombia.
