Who can register a domain name?

According to the new policies of .CO domains ***8211; there are no domicile or restrictions to registering a 2nd level .CO or 3rd level un-restricted .CO domain (.com.co, .net.co, or .nom.co)

* Domain names that end with .gov.co, and mil.co belong to governmental organizations and military authorities respectively. The registrant has to supply sufficient information to establish and evaluate the validity of the domain name he or she wants to register.
* Domain names that end with .org.co belong to embassies and non-governmental organizations. The registrant has to supply sufficient information to establish and evaluate the validatity of the domain name he or she wants to register
* All .org.co, .gov.co and .mil.co domains will be offered exclusively through .CO Internet SAS (link to Registro de Dominios de Usuario Restringido | Registro de dominios .CO y .COM.CO | Administrador OFICIAL de los dominios .CO)

Which are the necessary contacts?
* There are no proxy or privatized registrations allowed for .CO domains
* Every request needs 3 contacts: administrative, technical and billing.
-Administrative contact: the person who represents the organization that applies for the domain name.
-Technical contact: responsible for the technical aspects of maintaining the DNS, maintaining the name of the server. Besides he/she acts as mediator for the technical personnel.
-Billing Contact: in charge of the payment for registration in order to maintain the requested domain name.


What are the rules for registering a .co domain name?

-A Domain Name can only contain characters [a-z, 0-9,-];
-Spanish Internationalized Domain Name Characters are permitted for registration
-A Domain Name must be a minimum of 3 characters and consist of no more than 63 characters;
-A Domain Name must not start or end with the - character;
-A Domain Name must not contain two - characters next to each other.
-Every Domain Name must be unique; it is impossible to register a Domain Name that is identical with an already existing Domain Name.
