Default How to register a .com.co domain

What are the requirements to register a .com.co. At Marcaria they require you to have a Colombian company and a trademark for the domain name (both of which they will do for you for a fee). The company element makes sense, but do you really need a trademark for a generic? In the US for example, there is a complete prohibition on trademarking "generic" terms and even something "descriptive" requires secondary meaning - Does anyone know how Colombian law works? Does anyone have experience registereing domain names in Colombia (both foreigners and natives)? Are there issues with protecting a c.om.co name?

Thanks in advance.

I once checked and there was a TM requirement and local presence for .com.co, but with opening of the .co toplevel domain space, they might reduce the restrictions.

I don't think theer is a prohibition for generics as TM in the US, examples would be Apple, Target, Drugstore

Is the .co extension a definite?

As for the US, you can't TM a term that is considered generic, so my point was if this was the case in Colombia, how could you register a generic if there is a requirement that you first have a trademark? And if you can TM a generic term, wouldn't someone else have done this a long time ago?

Some generic domains are taken. There are some dark ways to register.
