Who can register a domain name?
According to the policies of .co domains, to register a domain name you need a unique identification that is correctly registered.
- Domain names that end with .com.co, .edu.co, .org.co , .net.co can be requested by organizations or companies, or by corporations that have a NIT and are registered in La Camara de Comercio.
- Natural persons with an identity card only can register a domain name that ends with .nom.co.
- Domain names that end with .gov.co and mil.co belong to governmental organizations and military authorities respectively.
- The registrant has to supply sufficient information to establish and evaluate the validity of the domain name he or she wants to register.
What are the syntax rules for a .co domain name?
- Can only contain characters [a-z, 0-9,-];
- Must not consist of more than 63 characters;
- Must not start or end with the - character;
- Must not contain two - characters next to each other.
What do commercial entities need to register .com.co?
Locals:
- 1. Photocopy of the NIT card
- 2. Certificate of la Cmera de Comercio
- 3. Application letter specifying the required domain name
- 4. Letter of responsibility
If you want another name that is not your trademarked name, it is advisable to send a copy of the trademark registration as well.
Organizations outside Colombia:
- 1. Photocopy of the NIT card and the certificate of Cmara de Comercio of the agent/representative
- 2. Power of Attorney legalized by Apostille with a signature of the attorney or the representative entity, directly send by the requesting organization, by a person that legally represents the foreign company.
- 3. Equivalent of the Certificate of Cmara de Comercio and the identification number of the taxpayer in the country of origin.
- 4. When the domain name does not coincide with the corporate name, it is advisable to send the corresponding registration of the mark also.
