Formerly the similar thread was posted regarding `why .de so successful?` and I still wonder if .de is so successful, while .jp registration number is only 1M. Japan is the same as or bigger advanced, cutting-edge IT country than German. My idea is as follows;
KSF of .de; 1) easy registration system at hosting services 2) `Resale` market is mature (like Sedo) 3) German word characteristic ( longword domain names are so many ?) but still I wonder why so big ( 13times of .jp ) Immaturity of .jp; 1)many Japanese net-shops are under major sites such as, `Rakuten` and `Yahoo shops`, therefore they don`t feel they need their own domain names. 2)They want to choose more popular domain such as .com. (Still the total number of .com registered from Japan are only 1M, based on webhosting.com) So very small, compared with Japan economic size. 3)This is very simple reason ; because domain names are in basic `English`, not mother tongue of course. So the growth speed is very slow. Please let me know your opinion and ideas. Regards Hanachan |

Just a simple fact, but maybe one more reason for the success story of .de:
- registration fee of a German .de is pretty cheap, compared to other ccTLDs. Reseller price is just a few Dollars per registered domain. This allows to build up very large portfolios of domain names. Regards Cobia |
