I think that Eurid ran a promotion for registrars last year that allowed registrars to get a discount on renewals depending on how many domains were renewed. The US/Canadian direct nav mobs renewed a lot of their domains using this method. The Summer is always a slow point for domain registration in Europe so Eurid may be desperate to promote the .eu ccTLD. Some registrars couldn't even give .eu domains away last year.
