Spanish is a popular language and more people start to see it. But I know for example about quite a lot of Polish .eu domain name sales but the prices are smaller than English or Spanish keywords - depends on the keyword too.

But you check how many .eu domains have Spain. It isn't popular in Spain and the domainers Spaniards don't like too. That's why I say: Very unusual. |

Spanish is an important business language globally, but very limited within the EU.

Number of Spanish .eu: 69936 (22/April/2009) This ratio of ccTLD to eu seems to be common in the EU. Approximate ratios: .at : eu 11.48 .be : eu 9.8 .es : .eu 16.2 .de : .eu 13.9 .uk : .eu 21.5 .nl : .eu 8.02 .it : .eu 9.9 .pl : .eu 7.7 .ie : .eu 12 * .fr : .eu 5.5 .fi : eu 13.9 (I don't trust Eurid's stats on Irish .eu registrations as Eurid permits cyberwarehousing operations using Irish front companies. I think that the true number of Irish owned .eu domains is only around 10K.) Regards...jmcc

I took the ccTLD figures for 01/April/2009 and 31/March/2009 from HosterStats.com: gTLD and ccTLD Domain Name Counts 2009 and then used the daily stats from Statistics | EURid to calculate some very rough ratios.
Regards...jmcc

Being Swiss and living in Switzerland, I cannot buy EU domain names (unless I use a proxy service - yes, we are NOT in the EU!).
However, I allow myself a small remark: as usual, beyond the obvious value of generic names and category killers, besidse variations from one country to another - as illustrated in this thread - we have also to think in terms of adequation between a TLD and a potential market. For businesses or groups operating EU-wide, it definitely makes sense. For instance, I have seen EU as a TLD on lorries transporting goods across Europe, and it just seems that it fits well for such purposes. It is true that it is more suprising for websites with a purely national target. On the other hand, I am a strong believer in the significance of generic names, so if one has a good generic names in another extense than COM or the national one, why not? |
