Finnish government seeks to extend the validity of fi-domain names according to the proposal on the amendment of the Domain Name Act submitted on 19 March. The time of restraint of the domain names is also proposed to be shortened.
Currently, fi-domain names can be reserved either for one year or for three years. The Domain Name Act is proposed to be amended so that FICORA could provide a new validity period of five years. This maximum validity period would also apply to renewal of granted domain names. In the current situation, the former holder can apply for the domain name again three months after the validity period has expired. After this amendment, withdrawal of domain names would follow the same procedure as in other countries. The current restraint time of three months would be shortened to one month. FICORA will provide the holders of domain names instructions on renewal in good time before the validity period ends. FICORA - Fi-domain names for five years |

Limited to companies and citizens in Finland.
Foreign associations and entrepreneurs may obtain a fi-domain name by registering a Finnish branch office in the trade register. A foreign trademark which is protected in Finland may also be protected in the Finnish domain name register by registering it in the name of a subsidiary or some other contracting party registered in Finland. Finnish trademark holders that are not entitled to a fi-domain name are comparable to foreign trade mark holders. More info: https://domain.ficora.fi/fidomain/ac...get=Help#help1 |
