Hello all !
I see french.com at auction these days and that made me do a search on Sedo with keyword "french" in it with the .fr extension and i'm surprise to see many english names.fr I always thought good .fr type-in traffic will be french keywords so i am now wondering about the value of those ? Any experience (or thoughts) you may have ? avion.fr have a good value, i don't believe in airplane.fr ... you see what i mean ? Is there a market for english name with the .fr (knowing France people do not speak english a lot) a+ |

From personal experience, English .fr domains are rather worthless traffic & resale wise. 2 word adult terms are the exception we've found, some of them get type in traffic.
I wouldn't waste any money on English .fr's, just go with your instincts and stick to the French language for the French market. |

worthless traffic ? it depends on your keyword ...
i also have experience with adult terms (1 word, not 2) and as you said : got some type-in traffic, yes resale wise ? what does this means ? it's in the spirit of a resale that i'm wondering about it ![]() i'll be curious to know how much english people got english names french extension and what was their motivation doing it, then if results match their expectations

I'll clarify.
If the domain has type in traffic that is good, when I say worthless I mean the chance of getting traffic on english .fr's is very very low. And when I say worthless resale wise, I mean the chances of a sale are very very low. ie. English .fr = bad investment |

Being a French speaker myself (but living in Switzerland, where the situation is different, so I write here from the angle of what it would be like in France): in most cases, an English .fr would not be a very attractive solution. Do not forget that French tend to be quite protective of their language! However, they are not immune to Ebglish vocabulary: in cases where an English word is widely used, it might make sense.
But in order to have a useful discussion, we should look for cases of English .fr sales. Since I am not in .fr, I am not very familiar with them - I suggest that you ask on a French domainers' forum, such as ForumNDD.com. You would certainly get precise answers there. |

In order to get a feeling of the market for English names in French, go to the French Sedo platform:
Parking, achat, vente de noms de domaine*-*Sedo and follow some of the English names in French currently being auctioned, and compare them with French .fr currently on auction. It should provide some information for an assessment (currently, for instance, buildings.fr is for sale, or blackjacks.fr). |

Hi,
English .fr names are very sought after. Not for type-in traffic (which is, except for cybersquatting always low), but for the brandability of the names. What is better? map.fr of carte.fr ? Map.fr for sure. However, the names need to be short and known by most people. Thus rent.fr is fine, but mortgage.fr not. |
