Call for bidders to manage the .fr

On March 9th, after Mr Luc Chatel -Secretary of State for Industry and Consumption- settled the appointment process of the Registry for the French Internet domains, AFNIC handed its application file to the French Ministry of Economy, Industry and Employment.
In its answer, the current .fr registry has outlined an open and sharing approach, in a non profit and neutral framework.

AFNIC would like to thank all the French and foreign people who expressed their support to its candidacy: members of French Parliament, corporates, professional and user associations, research and education institutions, registrars, French cities and international domain names stakeholders.
EPP, an easier registration interface

In addition , after 18 months of intense work and in close collaboration with the different registrars, the new interface based on EPP protocol will be launched on March 30th.
More simple in its use, this interface, based on new procedures and registration rules, will ease the daily life of the domain names users:

* simplification on a registrar change procedure;
* simplification of domain bulk registration;
* extension of the redemption period of a domain name.

Wow! Better later than never... but it was always a little bit strange that such a big TLD like .fr didn't use EPP!

.es with 1,100,000 domains don't have EPP.
