As I am sure you are aware... there is a large population of French speaking people in Canada. As a result there is substantial demand for french language .ca domains.
Is it a stretch to believe that end user's who currently operate .fr websites would have interest in acquiring french language .ca domains? Not some crappy multi-word "stretch", but powerful single word french language domains. as an example: Explicite.ca (Explicit en francais) Huge search returns, multiple market relevence, high end-user appeal, possible "adult" relevance. Thoughts?

French domainers don't care about .ca domain names, even very good ones. I have some truly nice .ca's in french, but I am not hoping to sell them to non-canadian domainers. Domaining is almost totally unknown in French Canada. There's maybe ten French Canadian domainers in the whole world. Just go to forums like domaineur.com, and you will see that the vast majority of « domaineurs » are Europeans. They want .coms and .fr, and sometimes a .be or a .ch, but no one is selling or buying .ca, unfortunately. But I am, so if someone here has a great .ca, like argent.ca, billet.ca or mexique.ca, I may offer you a reasonable amount of money for it. Just send me a pm with your list.

It all comes down to supply and demand...
Population of France = 61M Population of Belgium= 10M Population of Quebec= 7.5M It is obvious why the demand for .fr dominates french language domains.

It's possible that you might be able to sell a name to a .fr owner, but it defeats the purpose of a country code domain name in the first place. Think of ccTLD's like local search, if you want to buy a car in France are you going select autos.fr or autos.ca?
You might get a sale if the .fr owner was interested in marketing to French Canadians or worried about preventing someone from setting up a competing site, but be prepared to sell at 10% of the value of a .fr |
