Hi, I've recently noticed that .mx domains will be available, but during the sunrise phase only to those that own the exact .com.mx name. 101domains ran a special for $9.99 for .com.mx. I was astonished at how many generic names were available. I registered some like golfcourse.com.mx, shipper.com.mx, exporting.com.mx. Mexicans tend to speak english, as their main industry is tourism. Does anyone have an opinion . . . should I go ahead and register the .mx version of these. there is a heavy cost of $99, but I would be guaranteed to own them. thanks

Hey, 101domain.com - they ran a special for a month or so to register .com.mx for $9.99 - i guess to get more people to sign up for names - right before the sunrise period, hopefully to get those names upgraded to .mx - which is $99 during the period. Rules for sunrise and links are at: http://www.101domain.com/mx.htm and http://www.101domain.com/com_mx.htm

The best option to register .mx domains is nic.mx
Here are the official registrars: http://www.registry.mx/jsf/rar_list/search/search.jsf |

Nearly all of the .com.mx names I have I got during those promotions at nic.mx. Does anyone know of other registries that use similar promotions?

I have seen at different times .es and .pl offer some sort of promotion. One other thing on .com.mx is that in my experience, it is the registry that offers a promotion and then the registrars follow suit, not the other way around.

.at sometimes have promotions. Usually, some private registrars (no NIC) make promotions because they find a new costumers and registries. |

I too use 101domain.com for my cctlds - mostly because I only speak English and it makes it easy to get all kinds of extensions and manage them all easily - but can someone point out where it says that the .mx registrations will be $35 through nic.mx?

Ok, I just sent 101domain an email asking why they charge $99 and nic.mx is charging $35. The response was: "We are an accredited MX registrar, and we know from the registry this is not true."
Can anyone point out please at nic.mx where they say they are charging $35. I can't find it anywhere on their site. Please if anyone knows where they mention it, please post the link so I can get back to the girl at 101.... appreciated in advance.

Thanks. The link is what i was looking for. Now I will email beck the girl at 101 and see what she says. I will post her reply here when I get one. I just hope that $35 is also for the sunrise period of .mx. I will assume it is.

IMPORTANT
There is no ethical reason for a registrar to sell pre-registrations, because at this first stage you only can claim a domain if you have previously (before march, 1st. 2009) registered WITH THEM the .com.mx, .net.mx, .org.mx, .edu.mx or .gob.mx. In example: A domain ".net.mx" registered in 2002 is older than the ".com.mx" registered in 2004. If the ".net.mx" owner does not claim it and the ".com.mx" owner is the only one asking to get the .mx, the ".com.mx" owner gets it. If both claim the name, the ".net.mx" owner gets the .mx If nobody claims the name, I´ll get it on september
