Below are the current launch period details:
Pre-Registration - May 1, 2009 - July 31, 2009: Entities with existing COM.MX, .NET.MX, .ORG.MX, .EDU.MX, or .GOB.MX registrations on or prior to March 1st 2009 can pre-register an identical .MX domain name. For example: to pre-register "unique.mx", the domain name would need to be an existing unique.com.mx, unique.net.mx, unique.org.mx, unique.edu.mx or unique.gob.mx domain name. • Where there are multiple requests for a domain name, the award will be to the owner having the longest registration period with the existing .COM.MX, .NET.MX, .ORG.MX, .EDU.MX, or .GOB.MX domain name. • Domains must contain at least 3 characters. Waiting Period - August 1 - August 31. During this period no new request will be allowed, but the requests during the Pre-registrations will be processed. • All domains requested and assigned will be activated at the end of this period. In case it is considered that the domain name was not assigned under the rules and policies of the pre-registration period, the owners could initiate a dispute process within 20 days of notification. Open Registration - September 1, 2009 The registration of .MX will be open for general public. • Requests will be processed on a first come, first served basis. • Domains must contain at least 3 characters. I think this is a good way of doing it,
guranteeing most good names willl go to those who own the other versions. and give those with developed sites a better chance at getting there own/rightfull name. is there any talk of holding "premiums" back to auction off at a later date ?

Nic.mx registrations for the .mx are reasonable at $35/domain. My names are at a registrar that is charging $99. Do you think I can register at nic.mx, even though my .com.mx's are somewhere else. I imagine they cross check the whois. Does anyone know for sure if i can do this?

If you have an account at www.nic.mx you can register direct.
Take into account that During the first phase (pre-registration period) , domains directly under .MX MUST be registered with the same registrar where the corresponding and identical .[com|net|org|gob|edu].mx domain is registered. For subsecuent phases and general public registrations, you can do it at any registrar you wish that carries .mx domains. We are opening a registrar with service in Spanish, English, French and Portuguese where you would be able to register domains directly. Of course, under your own name and with an EPP interface to the Mexican registry. We'll be more than glad to help you. PM for further details. Best regards from Mexico City. Quote:
