Default Steady growth in the number of .nl domain names in 2008

Quote:
Arnhem, 20 April 2009 - SIDN, the .nl registry, saw its portfolio of domain names grow by 495,673 in 2008. The 18 per cent net increase in the number of registered .nl domain names brought the year-end total to 3,191,127. These figures were reported in SIDN’s annual report for 2008, published today at www.sidn.nl.

With twenty-eight domain names per thousand people, we have a higher domain name density than any other country in the world.

The .nl is the 4 ccTLD in the world, after China, Germany and UK.

Do you know of any special promotion the last months?

I haven't heard about any new promotion but SIDN has very nice prices for domain names for the whole year round It's only 3,68 € per year for .nl domain name + some small maintain fee for registrars. So it's very cheap, even comparing with .com TLD.

You can also look at the latest presentation from SIDN shown at domain conference in Poland organized by Polish registry NASK:

These prices don't need promotions.

Thanks for the links.

Exactly, so the price between 2-4 EUR is the right one. Also allows registries to do their job without a problem. That's why I do not understand registries, sometimes with even more that 1 million registrations, that charges 10-15 EUR. Why?

I don't know maybe they give support and good control panel.

But others charges 60 dollars and you don't have control panel

There is, I think, very strong correlation between the price of domain names and country's development. The more developed country - the cheaper domains it has and the cheaper domains - The more developed country. Also more useful panel and more additional services.

For me the worst case is Rwanda. 225 Euros/year no control panel, horrible registrer system, few people with Internet ...

I think they don't know the importance of this.

I think that's because they have much bigger problems now in Rwanda.. They haven't had time yet to think about Internet, while there are a lot of other things to be done first.

And it's not exactly only their fault.. but I guess the situation in Africa (also in domain market) is because really almost nobody cares at all.
