my name is Marieke Brinkman, working for Sedo GmbH and responsible for the Benelux and Scandinavia.

With my first thread, I would like to introduce the upcoming BeNeLux auction, a very good way of selling your Dutch .nl and .be domains through our platform. The auction will be held from April 21st till April 28th, the application period started today. Feel free to put your domains for sale in this auction:

- log in
- domain management
- select your Dutch domains (.nl and .be)
- Choose ´Apply for Benelux Auction´ in the scroll down menu
- reserve price
- execute

Anyway, the list of names has grown quite a lot, including some quality names but also crappy names (like brilmonturen.nl j/k) A lot of good names have been rejected though...

I am a bit disappointed by the relatively low quality of names until now, and more than a bit surprised about some names that got rejected.

Most of these names are okay, meaning that they have some value but are not absolute top class. A name like resellerhosting makes no sense, I have never heard someone use that phrase before.
In general Sedos criteria seem to be almost random, I have seen listings on other forums of what got rejected, and that often included names that are much better quality.

I am not too sure about that. Take a look at the attached image for the number of Google results for "reseller hosting" (Dutch Google, Dutch ip): 4.320.000. Also there seem to be enough advertisers for the keyword, as demonstrated by the number of ads in the right column of the results page.

Well, that's probably because of the broad match of the term hosting. My attachment of a search on Google.nl for crappy hosting yields 2.5 million, also with lots of advertisers.

Anyway, I think the problem (aside from the fact that this particular domainname is in quarantine ) is that such names not only breach the auction rules (reseller hosting is not exactly a dutch word), it's also not a name of the quality one would expect in such an auction (although quality is something subjective).

The difference is that my search was literal and yours is not. You searched for: crappy hosting. Now search for: "crappy hosting", including the double quotes. That query returns only 2.320 results.

MVL: using the Dutch Google is not enough, you should ask Google to return Dutch pages only. In that case it only returns 33,000 pages for the exact phrase.
Also the nr 1 result claims to have a TM on this phrase, so you can expect some trouble if you buy it.

For me the most simple check is that I never hear people using this word.

Which is in the same league: "dedicated hosting" site:.nl and that term is very common.

Yeah they only accept the .nl and .be extension for the BeNeLux auction. Its not about if the keyword is dutch or not.

Guess there will some new ones be added in the next few days, word is that about 120 auctions slots are available for the NeBeLux auctions.

Wonder what the opinion of some international players is regarding the different domains.

They say they have deliberately included a number of 'lesser' names in order to be able to target more segments of the market, not just the very top. It explains some of the names, but there still are quite a few names in it with zero or close to zero commercial potential, making it highly unlikely for those names to be sold at a decent price.

Thank you, I used Google Translate to do the translation fast and browsed the names once and made some corrections but a few probably slipped through.

The Benelux auction starts within 25 minutes from now. The final list of domains contains everything from no reserve up to a stunning name like weerbericht.nl (weather forecast) with a reserve of ***8364;100,000 - ***8364;250,000.
