Default Experience with .no?

Anyone have any experience with the .no TLD? I would be interested to know if there is much potential with this extension - words ending in "no" are an obvious target.

It's very complicate cctld.

You need trademark, a local address and a companie.

Individual persons can't register domains .no. They have a third level for persons.

The quota of 20 domain names is active. Norid makes no exceptions from this rule.

I heard from some Norwegian domainers that it is quote easy to avoid this limit (you need additional entities) but it is still quite odd that you can register only 20 domains The fact that you can't register as an individual is strange as well.

Have you heard about any plans to change this?

How about trademarks? You need it to register domain or not? If yes - international trademarks are also accepted?

The trick is create new companies. But it's expensive.
Usually the registrars have different companies and register domains for foreigners with this method.

I don't heard news about this.

The trademark doesn't mandatory but the company must are registered in the a Register Centre. You need a company with address in Norway.

Also Norwegian law forbids the advertisement for gambling in Norway, this includes the use of .no domains.

Nice price for nav.no. Is there any forum dedicated domain market in Norway or at least some thread at webmaster / hosting forum? There are 424,000 .no domains registered, so it's not so bad as for 5 million people country and so much restrictive registry..

It isn't a domainer forum. But they have some thread about domaining. Exactly in "Generelt om webutvikling".

It's not so expensive for local companies. You can buy .no domain for 129.00 NOK = 20 USD (active24.no)

Yes, you do need a "organisation number" to be able to register a .no, but those are quite easy (and free) to get from the Company Registry (Brønnøysundregistrene - registeretat og datakilde). It doesn't have to be a company, it can be a union or an organisation of some sort as well. The latter is free to register.

The cheapest place to buy .no in English is Domainnameshop. They are the largest registrar in Norway and co-operates with SEDO for aftermarket purposes. The price varies according to currecy rates but it's £10.45 right now.

I have and have sold quite a few .no domains and the price is generally higher than .com or other TLD's.

It's definately more work than .com or .co.uk though.

FYI

Can a foreigner company sign in in brreg.no? Or it's only for local companies?

Yes, I believe foreigners can register.

Another thing I forgot to address is the trademark issue. There is no regulation on that part except if you do register cocacola.no you would probably be forced to hand it over to Coca Cola since it's obvious that you're infringing on somebodys trademark.

Most anything can be registered - just like .com
