In my exeperience the .com.ph names get more traffic but I get them both because I believe the .ph names have more resale value and the traffic on them is sure to grow.

.com.ph - other than eBay using eBay.ph, all the biggest brands are .com.ph based.

For the future, I think the .ph is the best option.
It´s more short. If you compare with other countries it's the trend. Second level more popular than third level is the common. |

Having owned super generics in both, the .com.ph traffic continues to far outshine .ph traffic (and trends underline that). |

I believe that in the long run .ph will gain over .com.ph. Currently .com.ph have more typein traffic, but the number of .ph is rising. In China the dominant extension used to be .com.cn, but not anymore.

This is one of the marketplaces I am really not sure in terms of the future. Looks like a lot of the heavy hitters use .com.ph.

im betting on .com.ph but in the end you might have to cover both bases but .com.ph has been around since 1996 or since the PH registry started. .PH only started in 2000 . Its terrible what they did but it was for money and so thus the industry has this big problem. The thing is all the big hitters use .com.ph . Each ccTLD is its own, in the end it will depend on the usage, whether .com.ph or .ph will gain more usage, so far its .com.ph leading strongly in both registrations and brand.

Most local company are using .com.ph.
Though I prefer .PH for resale and domaining mentality. |

i'd go with the local market and its in .com.ph , its like if .uk was released, would people use .uk more eventually than .co.uk ? Anyway the heavy hitters use .com.ph, the local market prefers .com.ph, even if the international market might want .ph more, who is likely to invest more in the PH ccTLD? International or local investors? I think local.

sorry for posting a duplicate of this. I wanted to ask those whose bought .com.ph on how much more typein traffic are you getting (compared to.ph)?
I called up the dotph office and asked one of their agents and apparently they're saying that they're promoting .ph more than com.ph, it might takeover sooner. |

maybe promoting it more because it does less sales?
I own a lot of .com.ph and .ph domains of the same name and I see a lot more traffic on .com.ph, for example realestate.com.ph and realestate.ph, realestate.com.ph gets 1300% the traffic of realestate.ph Last edited by kzap; 04-17-2009 at 02:38 AM. |

You're right, I've called them up again and they've confirmed that .com.ph is a more popular choice.
However, do you guys believe that .ph is going to take over soon? or would it just be a .com .net thing? |

I personally like .ph, that's all.
Go ahead register .com.ph and I will take .ph.

@king: I guess it really comes down to personal preferences. There's really no set rules yet

In a forthcoming ad campaign, which we hope to launch in the next 4 months, we will try to highlight the importance of brands and trademarks. A lot of people get the COM domain because they want to be perceived as being a global company, this despite the fact that practically all of their clientele is from the Philippines. In doing so, they end up with a hard-to-remember URL (as the COM domain they want is already taken). For example, Cebupacific had to settle for cebupacificair.com, instead of cebupacific.com. We believe cebupacific.PH is more memorable. Or Landco settled for LandcoPacific.com, instead of landco.PH. We've convinced landco to switch to the latter. More info about the thrust of this campaign is available on Why.PH. The ad compaign attempts to convince people that the more expensive PH domain is justified, if you believe there is value in having a more memorable domain.
What does this have to do with com.PH vs PH? We believe shorter is better as far as domain names go. They're more memorable. So we will always attempt to push people towards PH instead of com.PH in these ads. As far as numbers go, PH registrations have exceeded COM.PH registrations for several years. As for type-in traffic, some of you may know that PH is one of the few ccTLDs that monetize their wildcard. We find that for the 4 day period July 8- 11, com.PH had 101T unique visitors, whereas .PH had 116T uniques. This tells me that there are more people typing in .PH on their browsers than there are typing in .COM.PH. I'm really curious nevertheless as to why it is that a site like realestate.PH has less traffic than realestate.com.PH. Perhaps the latter has more links? You'll also find from Alexa the number of big ticket PH sites is beginning to exceed COM.PH sites - eg ebay.ph, pep.PH, levelupgames.PH. Only sulit.com.ph is bigger. So to summarize, we believe the story for PH vs COM.PH will follow the same path as Hk vs com.HK, MY vs COM.MY, PL vs COM.PL, etc. - Joel Disini DotPH |

Hi Joel,
Good to hear your feedback. I appreciate you taking the time to answer this question. By the way, I am a wholeseller of .PH but I'm still waiting for the reseller registration page that I need to add for my website. Will you be able to assist me to expedite this process? It's been months since my last email to support. Please send email to EM @ KING.NET Cheers for now. Emil Quote:
