Hi there. I would like to know in a quickly way the steps to transfer the .se domains. Is it very difficult to do it ? Is there an authcode or something similar to .com domains?

To perform a change of registrant you have to contact with your register.

You fill a pdf and send by email.

A change are not free of charge and will be billed like a new registration.

IIS/.SE just changed business model to registry/registrar. To transfer a domain the buyer need an account at the same registrar, and an auth code. The seller also needs to print a small form, sign it, and send it to the same registrar.

I hope that one day all the ccTLD registry operator change to EPP and give up the pre historic transfer procedures, were one has to send fax or post documents.

I have been wishing for that to happen with .SE for last 5 years now, and when they now finally introduced AUTH codes I thought once and for all there would be no need for paperwork. They say it's required according to Swedish law though.

This is correct, planning to happen in december 2009.

But please note - this will be possible for our registrars to offer - But I am not aware of which registrars that will offer this feature this year.

And also please notice that it is a renewal change in several meanings - both for the registrars and also for the registrants (depending on your registrars choice):

We will go from 1 year renewals to 12-120 months renewals (1-10 years).
This means that some registrars will continue to offer 1 year renewals just like today, others will offer 1-10 years and I guess some also will offer the registrars to sync portfolios to one renewal cycle (especially when moving in diomains from other registrars).

Another change is that a registrant today only can renew a .se-domains at the earliest 3 month before expire date - with the new change there will be possible to renew the domain 12 month before expire date.


I will try to visit this forum once in a while to see if there is any questions or if I can inform you in any way I can.

Meanwhile I recommend a little study I made appr. 10 days ago regarding the status and growth of 90 TLDs and perhaps whats more interesting for this community; the number of domains per both the population and internet user in each country (If I get the time soon enough I will refine the documents with some other info I find interesting per ccTLD)

An interesting question is how the multi year registrations will affect the Google algorithm. For .com's it is a lot easier to rank higher if your domain has a few years until exp date in my experience. So for my developed .SE's I will add some years to see what happens with the Google rankings.

I checked with my registrar Crystone and they told me they will offer multi years as soon as it is possible on the registry side.

According to Google algorithms I really have no answer if ccTLDs even could compare with gTLDs and if years of registration, number of ns changes, numbers of change of ownership, number of aliases pointing to the main site, if the ns have redundance, if the ns lies in the same country as the sites main TLD etc etc. My guesses is that this and other factors together could have affect in what some people call trustrank - but dont take this for anything else then a wild guess..

But besides from the SE ranking affects my guesses is that the multiyears will be good for both old and presumtive registrants.

And yes there are several registrars that are looking to offer this from day one, while several others plan to wait.
