Default .uk vs .co.uk

Is there a preference for one TLD over the other? It seems like most people are promoting .co.uk domains.

You cant actually register .uk domains anymore, only .co.uk

I belive most use .uk for short, as most "domainers" know this or some do.

I'll let a .uk pro fill you in on the details.

But there is a few .uk websites (police.uk is 1)

Nominet run the UK registry and do not allow .UK registrations, only second level.

Nominet manages the following SLDs within .uk:
.co.uk, .org.uk, .net.uk, .ltd.uk, .plc.uk and .me.uk.

.uk is no longer available - you can only register at the second level eg. co.uk, org.uk etc

Keep things simple and invest in .co.uk. Here in the United Kingdon, companies that brand with the UK ccTLD use .co.uk.

You will occasionally see the others like .org.uk being used by smaller or less savvy websites/companies, such as charities.

I suspect that firstname.me.uk might be of some value, but they're probably all gone at this stage ...
