Hello,
I regged a .co.uk domain a couple days ago. It is a FreeKeyword.co.uk domain. These are the numbers based on Google Keyword Tool: Broad: 33.100 Phrase: 135.000 Exact: 3.600 Keyword itself has the following metrics: Broad: 3.350.000 Phrase: 3.350.000 Exact: 201.000 The question is, shall I register the Free-Keyword.co.uk version? It is available right now. By the way... In the following months will be an important event in England regarding Keyword. This event runs every year. Edition: Forgot to include the CPC: Based on GKT it is 1.34 Last edited by will; 03-15-2009 at 10:04 PM. |

I use a hyphenated .co.uk for one of my mini sites, its one of my best earners to date, I dont think Google pays much attention to the hyphen its just see's the Key-Words in the Domain so if its a good Key Word string Go For It.

In my experience visiting London I noticed a lot of hyphenated domains on signs and storefronts.
As a matter of fact, on my flight over, I spoke with someone who works with the tech department at Virgin Atlantic and we spoke about hyphens. Checkout www.virginatlantic.com (or .co.uk), it forwards to www.virgin-atlantic.com His reasoning is that the hyphen separates the words which makes it easier for people who speak multiple languages to read what each word is. |

Personally I don't like hyphens, and Ray, I think you must've hit a pocket of hyphenated names, as I don't come across that many. Or maybe I don't tune into them so much at home.
Now France loves a hyphen or two in a domain - often you can find the unhyphenated version available while the hyphenated is taken. If you feel better knowing you've got it, go ahead and reg it for the sake of a couple of quid!

for .de I recommend to use the hyphenated version.
I have some .co.uk with hyphen, but the once without get more traffic. I personally like the hyphnated version better, as it is easier to read, but I guess it realy depends on the country and what people use to type in for the extnesion.

What specifically do you want to know?
Like I said for .de "-" seems to be the better choice, but I would also register the version without "-". If you can offer both versions, it might be worth more to the buyer. for .at and .ch I have the feeling that people use less "-" variant, having said this I have "-" .at and .ch domains with traffic. I believe that americans hardly ever type hyphens, but this is only my personal opinion.

Hyphenated url's are not a good choice if your focus is typein traffic, it just ain't gona happen, if your focus is building a content rich Website then a good Keyword hyphenated-Domain can be just as affective as a non hyphenated version, in most cases I understand that search engines dont recognise the hyphens just the Key-Words so they are ideal for popular search terms and SEO, as I have already stated, one of my best performing Websites has been a hyphenated Domain so I am speaking from personal experience, others might have a different view on this.
