Default newbie question

hello all-

i just joined 20 seconds ago.

i need a firm definite answer to a question i have asked many people and still have yet to get anything close to a consistent response. so here goes:

if a .com is on sale for $50,000 and the .net, .org, .info, .biz, .us are available...

then how much are the available tlds actually worth. a ballpark answer will do just fine. the only answer i have gotten so far is dont waste my time with anything other than .coms... that there is no money to be made in any other tlds or cctlds, but when i see auction results where 3 word .co.uk sells for 12,000 GBP and .info's are selling for over 2,000 usd etc, etc, my gut tells me that there is plenty of money to be made everywhere.

right now i can hand reg a .us that does 550,000 exact match searches a month and also a .us where the .coms are being sold for $112,000 and $45,000 respectively.

i have also found a slew of .net's where the .com is selling for or has already sold for between 5 and 20 thousand.

so if a domain is available in .net, .org, .info, .biz, and .us then what is the order in terms of resell value?

if a .com is selling for $50,000 is it worth it for me to buy the .biz or the .us for $10?

and seeing as literally there are thousands of .biz available where the .com is selling for many thousands should i pick them up or let them go in favor of .net's or even .info or .us?

sorry about being scattered across different tlds here, so if you wanna just keep the post to .us thats cool too.

but i really want to build a strong .us portfolio and i have found a whole host of big ticket .coms avail in .us and also .us where there is between 50,000 to 2,000,000 searches a month in google.

can i possibly go wrong with buying into either of the 2 scenarios?

thanks to anyone who helps me out here.

i truly believe there are millions to be made in dealing in everything but .com.

am i crazy?

Youre not crazy,

And those who tell you to invest in only .com are crazy.

theres no real answer, as the sales data avilable to compare .com price to .us price doesnt mean jack.

all i would say is if someone spends $50,000 on a .com the .us is worth more than reg fee,

personnaly i'm not keen on .biz, but lots of others are.

if you dont reg the names with 2,000,000 searches per month in .us i will, and i'll pay you a finders fee.

I pretty much only buy .us, and i consider myself to be pretty smart, (not rocket scientist smart) , but getting good deals, and making money of .us names i seem to be winning so far, with over 800 left (new.us/aids.us/mold.us/move.us/contactor.us and some other nice names)

I actually dont like to sell many names, as i belive the prices of .us will continue to rise, gradually, long term investment IMHO! and i have plenty of patience.

i just parked a couple hundread names and found i own a .us that gets close to 350 uniques per day, and another that gets 50-60 a day.

a good alternative to .com / .net

good luck whatever you decide, dont let others do it for you.

you'll find those who tell you to invest in .com are not making as much money as you think

Cool Re: newbie question

thats the first hint of honesty ive heard out of like 15 replies (ive asked the same question on namepros and DNforum) - every single person who replied to me told me to not even think about anything other than .com and whatever i do dont buy more than 5 domains and most of them told me to wait a month before buying the first one. what a bunch of crap!!!!!!!!!!!

listen bro i have what i know in my balls to be a rock solid list of gold nuggets. do you realize that there are like well over 100,000 one word .us domains available. i actually went 6 for 6 just typing in random one word domains to check availability and every one of them was available in .us now maybe im off a bit with the 100,000 assumption - maybe its more like 200,000 because ive found over 50 and ive been looking for 3 days. so what does everyone think is gonna happen when US companies decide they want to buy a one-word .com and find out its for sale for $25,000 - how much will we get offered for the ONLY NEXT SENSIBLE CHOICE - which is so obviously .us - hell i dont care if i flip it for 1,000 if i buy it for $10 im not that greedy.

and .biz will be huge one day as well. just look at b-ball.biz $26,500 asking price for a hyphenated .biz for cryin out loud. anyways i'm with you. im about to jump on like 50 .us in the next few days and when i'm done with my rampage i'll pm you my list. you will be truly shocked at whats still available for reg fee. TRULY SHOCKED.

so whats the deal with company name .info, .net, or .us?? - i found a company that is almost as big as wal-mart - they have over 5,000 stores i know that much and the .info and .biz and .us is available. if i buy it and try to resell it am i breaking some TM law? would the company have a right to the domain even though it available for hand reg right now? i'm not too keen on the rules when it comes to buying TM tlds.

For any idiot that thinks .us is worthless just go look at any auction with cctld's and see how many .de are selling for more than a new Lincoln.

I'm goin on a rampage.

if it would include their TM, then you would be violating TM laws and the company might come after you.

Dynadot at $7.99 could be a nice price, although from time to time there are special offers in some registrars (maybe right now, but I have no notice of any).

From what I've seen and read on domaining, I would think twice before calling idiot anyone who thinks in a certain way. Notice that if your oppinion was as certain as you think it is, every domain you're going to register would be already registered!

Good luck with your rampage!
