Default Registering a .VE

Hello,

If you up for a fot ve, go to NIC.ve, the official registrar. You don't need to be a resident in order to apply for a domain.

Venezuelan regulations only allows the public registration of third-level domains in the following extensions:

COM.ve
NET.ve
ORG.ve
INFO.ve
CO.ve
WEB.ve

Currently, the form of payment is only by Wire Transfer or local bank deposit. If you are not in Venezuela you might need to send a wire transfer which could be expensive based on your location and bank fess. They stop accepting credit cards a couple months ago.

If you want to register a .VE domain name and save some bucks at the same time, I think I could help you.

I can accept PayPal transfers or a wire transfer to a territorial US Bank and I can make the deposit for you. Once I made I, I send you the deposit number or wire transfer ID and you send it to NIC. I don-t even need to know which domain you are up to buy.

In this regards, you will need to send only USD7 per year per domain to me: Usually USD12 if you pay by credit card. Even more if you pay using a wire transfer.

It is possible to me to offer this, because our currency exchange market is controlled by the goverment so 1 buck for anyone worths far more than one official dollar.

I hope it helps...

Can you tell me a bit about the .ve market? Are there Domainers in Venezuela actively buying and selling .ve names?

It seems that by not accepting credit cards this would greatly limit their reach.

Do businesses in Venezuela display a .ve domain or .com domain for their business or in TV ads?

Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide!

Best,

Morgan

Well... for the truth's sake I have to admit that there are more people buying than selling. However, to be honest, I think it's a common behavior right now with obvious exceptions (.de, .co.uk...)

AFAIK there are around 5 or 6 venezuelan domainers. Perhaps one or two more.

Regarding the use of the .ve or the dot com version on ads and commercials, most companies use the .ve version... But it might be affected by the fact that venezuelan goverment has imposed a very strict control on currency exchange so many companies and individuals just can't buy a dot com, unless someone else buy it for them.

NIC.ve management has just shifted from one entity to other one: From CNTI to CONATEL. Among other changes, they had to change the bank account they used to receive funds so they had to cancel their credit card processor. It should not be a problem but based on the way all goverment entities works... I'm affraid it would take a good amount of months to have it up and running again if ever.

All best,
Will

Recently, I had to change DNS on a domain and they were having problems on their side. It took like two weeks for someone from support to finally respond to me.

I recently wrote an article in my blog about their customer service. It's a nightmare. They don't have the slightest idea about customer service, service excellence, etc...

You are lucky only two weeks. Sometimes never respond the emails.

The problem with the domains .com.ve is the payment. Only local people can pay the domains. It's crazy.

Reg.nic.ve is the official web and they have the cheapest prices.

But right now, they don't accept credit card payments.
