I own only 1 .ws name... they debit 10 Dollars MONTH from my international VISA credit card... I don't want to have this domain anymore and the .WS registrar do not allow me to desist the domain!!!!!!! This sucks! I don't want this domain anymore, they keep billing me every month last 6 months and inside their website they have a telephone number I MUST call in order to desist the domain, I call (international call from Brazil to USA) and they keep playing some anoying music along with a recorded message telling me to wait becouse they "are very busy"... after some 20 minutes or more of INTERNATIONAL phone call I get sick (so does my phone bill). I have been trying to desist this domain last 6 months but these guys do not allow me to, it's clearly a trick!
I called VISA and visa says the only way is to block my international credit card, but I can't block my credit card for international transactions as I also use services of other companies in other countries. What would you do? It's not much money but I don't want to keep paying 120 Dollars year to these guys the rest of my life!!! These guys suck, visa sucks!

Why the register doen't let you cancel the domain?
What is the registrar? |

I cancel my cards and get new ones on a regular basis. I've found it is the only way to keep crazy charges from popping up all the time.

It would be good to let us know who "they" is. Is it Website.ws or another registrar?

It is far too expensive indeed. At Dynadot, it costs less than $10 per year...
I wonder if Gustavo bought some additional services without being aware of it. I have noticed that Website.ws sells some services (such as forwarding) at high prices. |

Anyway I bought the domain from the owner's of the ccTLD directly at their .ws website. They should allow me to not use their domain or services anymore, not keep billing me. Why force someone make an international phone call (that they won't answer) to desist a domain name or service? For me this is still a trick. |

the details might be in the fine print. Maybe you can only cancel the service after a certain time.
Also consider a chargeback, this might help.

According to them I can cancel the service at anytime, but the only way is calling this phone number in USA that they provide... first a recorded message asks you to chose an option, when push the "cancel service" option they will just play this anoyng music and will never talk to you. As I said, a trick. Does not matter how many times you call and wait they do not allow you to desist. Waste of time and money.

OK, I would first attempt to send an email to support - I did it recently, and I got replies. Clearly explain the technical problem, and clearly state you want only to cancel the service, not the name itself.
If this does not work, then a registered letter, along with a copy of a proof of identity (e.g. photocopy of the front page of your passport). |

Could you please let us know if your problem was finally solved? It would be interesting to know, in case other forum users experience such trouble.

Thank you for sharing with us. I must say the registry does not inspire much confidence. Too bad, since the registry could do much in order to promote the TLD properly - and starting with a presence on forums such as this, or any forum where there is a WS thread.
Maybe it would be a good idea to transfer the name itself to another registrar (eg Dynadot, which offers cheap WS rates) before cancelling your card? In order to make sure you don't get into troubkle. |
