The other day, I clicked one secund too late for catching a .ws name on a marketplace. Since I knew it would drop within five days, I just checked every day in order to register it once available. After all, it had been available on the marketplace for days at a price of $5, so there were obviously not many people after it.
Nevertheless, I was too late: apparently within minutes after it dropped (and it is not really a premium name), it was already taken by somebody else. Of course, it might have been pure chance, a coincidence. But another possible explanation is that the guy who got it before me had a list of drops of the day, and had just selected the name of interest to me as one of them. Hence two questions: 1) Is there anybody offering an efficient backorder/monitoring service for .ws names? 2) Is it possible to find somewhere a list of daily drops, with approximate time of drops (i.e.: do they all become available at the same time everty day, or are they spread over the day)? More info would be much appreciated! |

Not having received any comment, I post again in order to bring the thread up - but also following an intriguing experience I had these days.
As you know, Website.ws lists on its website "premium" names. Many can be booked instantly, either through Website.ws or through another registrar; some are marked as "reserved" and can be booked only through Website.ws. I had spotted two names of interest to me in that premium list. However, each time I attempted to book the names through Website.ws, I got a message informing me that the registration had failed and that somebody had apparently registered the name before me. However, looking at the Whois, both names were shown as still available, but only through website.ws. I contacted Website.ws, they answered that they had a technical problem. I asked them to register the names for me manually, but they refused to do it. That was some 15 days ago. I checked the names once a day, always the same problem, and two further messages to Website.ws only resulted in answers that they were looking at the issue. I check again today, and guess what? The names are no longer in the list. I then check the Whois: both were taken two days ago, one through Website.ws, the other one through Dynadot (strange, this it was shown as a name available only through Website.ws). Taken by two different people - one in Asia, one in North America, both quite active on the .ws market recently. Of course, it might be that they were checking daily like I did, and they were just lucky to book the names before I could. However, I noticed that those two domainers apparently manage to be extremely well-informed when a .ws domain drops. (Oviously, I cannot ask them how they do it!) Hence again my question: any way to find a drop list and to know the day and approximate time when a .ws domain name will drop? Would it be 30 days after expiration? And what about that "reserved list" at Website.ws (obviously not completely "reserved", since one of the two names was registered throuzgh Dynadot, although it was still on the "reserved" list the day before)? Interestingly, names on the "reserved" list seem to be only top quality names. There must be somebody on this forum more familiar with it than I am - and since I am getting interested recently in .ws names, I am really curious to know, if somebody is willing to share his/her knowledge. |

I never heard about a drop list.
Website.ws don't show the number of total registered domains. Perhaps these domainers are official registrars, could it be? |

No, those people are definitely not registrars, but individual domainers, using the same registrars as we all do. Once of them is active selling names on one domainers forum from time to time.
Website.ws: what is shown on their website is obviously only a selection of dropped names. Anyway, everything seems quite opaque, and I would like to understand better. |
